There are few experiences more rewarding than serving alongside fellow believers to help expand God's Kingdom. This summer, a team from Calvary Community Wesleyan Church traveled to the beautiful Caribbean island of Nevis as part of Operation Crossroad, a short-term missions initiative dedicated to helping construct the future home of Crossroad Community Church.
Led by Pastor Euclid Lawrence and his wife Carmella Lawrence, Crossroad Community Church has faithfully ministered to the people of Nevis while meeting in a small school facility. As God has continued to bless the ministry with growth, the congregation has prayerfully pursued the construction of a permanent church home. Rather than taking on significant debt, the church has chosen to build by faith—relying on God's provision through generous supporters, local volunteers, and ministry partners from around the world.
When the call for help was extended, Calvary Community Wesleyan Church joyfully answered.
Our mission team traveled to Nevis ready to serve with willing hands and joyful hearts. Throughout the week, team members worked alongside local believers, helping to pour concrete foundations, lay concrete block, mix mortar, move materials, and raise the walls of what will soon become Crossroad Community Church's permanent place of worship.
Every brick laid represented more than construction—it represented lives that will be transformed through the Gospel for generations to come.
More Than a Building
But Operation Crossroad was about far more than building a structure.
- It was about building relationships.
- It was about encouraging fellow believers.
- It was about demonstrating the love of Christ through practical service.
Each day was filled with hard work, heartfelt prayer, worship, laughter, and meaningful fellowship as brothers and sisters in Christ from different cultures came together with one shared mission: advancing the Kingdom of God.
A Beautiful Island with a Strong Faith Community
Nevis, the smaller of the twin-island Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, is home to approximately 12,000 residents. Known for its breathtaking mountain landscapes, warm hospitality, rich Caribbean heritage, and peaceful atmosphere, the island also enjoys a vibrant and growing Christian community committed to sharing the hope of Jesus Christ.
Nevis is perhaps best known internationally as the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, one of America's Founding Fathers and the nation's first Secretary of the Treasury. Yet beyond its history and natural beauty, the island is home to faithful churches like Crossroad Community Church that are making an eternal impact within their communities.
Rev. Dr. Griffin was born on the island of Nevis, making this mission not only an opportunity for international ministry but also a meaningful return to his roots and a chance to invest in the spiritual future of his homeland.
Looking Ahead
Although tremendous progress was made during this mission, there is still much work to be done before the new church building is complete.
Calvary Community Wesleyan Church is grateful for the opportunity to partner with Crossroad Community Church and plans to continue supporting this important ministry through future mission teams, prayer, encouragement, and practical assistance.
We eagerly look forward to returning to Nevis to continue building—not only the church facility, but also lasting friendships and a growing partnership centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
